The Oakville Thunder 17U Boys participated in the 2017 Rochester CANAM Volleyball Tournament on January 14th and 15th, 2017. With it being a large tournament with 34 teams registered in the 17U Boys age category, the competition was sure to be intense. After a slow start on the first day, the boys eventually found their rhythm on Sunday. They took one set from the eventual Silver Division champions, the Durham Attack, another Ontario volleyball club. At the end of round robin play, the team was seeded into the Bronze Division play down. The boys split the first two sets with a local Rochester team, before winning an exciting third set 18-16. They were going for gold! They began their final match by dropping the first set, but then never looked back. They maintained their confidence and composure to easily and convincingly take the next two sets with powerful serving, passing and setting. They established a solid attack along all points of the net and their defensive coverage was superb. Parents, coaches, and players were extremely pleased with the team’s efforts and success. This is their first medal of the season. More to come!
