The 18U Boys played in their first OVA tournament of the season this past weekend. They had an amazing opportunity to compete against the top 18 teams in the province over the course of the 2 day tournament. On Saturday morning the boys won their games in pool play to advance to the top power pool match ups. Unfortunately fatigue played a factor as they dropped the next two matches against tougher opposition. Regardless, the 18U Flash would still have an opportunity to contend at the highest level on day 2 of the tournament. And as Coach Jim explained, “The 18U boys unfortunately did not do what we wanted to do, but did what we had to do.” The boys lost a tough barnburner to last year’s Provincial Champions, 28-26 in the 2nd set to lose the quarter final. They then lost a very tough 3 set match by 19-17 in the third and now had to play the unwanted 7/8 match. The winner plays Premier at the next tournament with the loser going down to Championship. The team regrouped and won two close sets, securing their spot in Premier for the next tournament! The coaching staff is very proud of the team’s effort and know that constant exposure to premier level volleyball will only help the group! Congratulations on a hard fought 2 day tournament to start the year. Go Thunder!
